At this time of year, deciduous plants and trees enter a state of dormancy, making it a great time to do some pruning.
Winter pruning offers many benefits to plants and trees, such as:
• Reducing risk of disease • Encouraging healthy new growth in spring • Improving the appearance of the plant • Removing dead or dying areas • Less stressful than pruning in growth periods
Plants and trees that benefit from winter pruning includes roses, apple and pear trees, deciduous shrubs, and deciduous ornamental trees.
