Grounds Maintenance Assistant

(Part Time – 12 hours per week)

We are currently seeking a Grounds Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Paddock Wood Garden Centre.  Working in a very busy garden centre this is a very varied position. The successful candidate should be physically fit as this is a very hands on role. Some experience in a general maintenance is essential to the role as is good customer service.

Duties include:

General grounds maintenance
Cut grass verges
Empty external bins
Window Cleaning

The successful candidate will:

Be experienced in a retail environment
Have good customer care skills
Be professional and reliable
Able to prioritise work
Good time management skills

Cook

(Part Time – 20 hours per week – including weekends)

We are looking for a person with a passion and flair for the restaurant and catering industry. This is a very hands on role and as such you will need to be proactive, highly motivated, organised and results driven with good communication skills. You will be working as part of a team in a fast paced environment. Experience in a similar role in a similar environment is essential. A good working knowledge of till systems is preferred but not essential as training will be provided. You will also be require to help out Front of House when needed.

Duties include:

Prepare, cook and present food quickly and efficiently to a high standard
Work safely around the kitchen equipment
Maintain accurate food ordering and stock levels
Assist in keeping the kitchen clean, hygienic and tidy at all times
Monitor portion size and waste
Serving customers at the till
Taking customer orders
Clearing and cleaning duties
Making hot drinks

Skills needed:

Experience of working in a busy kitchen
Excellent communication skills and able to work as part of a team
Creative at making dishes but also able to work to specs
Baking cakes and other home bakes would be an advantage
Knowledge of HACCP
Able to manage multiple orders
Professionalism and reliability
Remains calm under pressure
Good time management
Level 2 basic food hygiene
Customer service skills

Job Type:

The successful candidate must be able to cover shifts and be able to adapt to both kitchen and front of house when needed.  As a family run business we understand the importance of work/ life balance so our working hours for cooks mean no evening work or split shifts are required.

Plant Manager

(Full Time – 40 hours per week - including weekends)

We are currently looking for a Plant Manager to join our large Garden Centre Group. Previous experience as a Plant Manager within the industry is preferred, however, applicants with a proven retail management background with a knowledge of plants will be considered.

Working in the plant area is a high volume environment with a fast turnaround. The successful candidate should be physically fit as this is a very hands on role. A good knowledge of plants is essential to the role as is good customer service and a high standard of visual merchandising.

The successful candidate will preferably possess either a horticultural qualification, will be in training or had practical horticultural experience

Duties include:

Actively working in the daily horticultural tasks of the Centre.
Assisting the Centre Manager to maximise sales and profit by ensuring the efficient and effective management to Company standards, of the commerciality, merchandising, replenishment and housekeeping across the Garden Centre.
Establish and maintain high horticultural and retail standards.
Manage and support overall plant health within the Centre.
Lead and motivate the staff in their team.
Manage stock control of the department.
Support Centre Manager in daily H&S tasks and paperwork, ensuring Health & Safety standards are always adhered to and maintained.
Generate ideas and assist in the development of even better methods of working within the department.
Help to achieve a high standard of customer service.
Assist with complaints and queries from staff and customers.
Assist where needed with the recruitment, training, development and individual performance of staff within the Centre to a high standard.
Carry out additional duties as and when required such as managing store and to attend events in the absence of the Centre Manger.
Assist when needed to effectively and efficiently plan and manage key events such as Christmas, Bank Holidays and Season Centre change.
